Smell of fuel in the boot

Just a few random blurtings.....
-The tiniest seepage, often invisible, can make one helluva a stink in an enclosed area. One trick I learned was to wrap all joints/connections in colored tissue paper and check 'em in a few days. If the paper is discolored, you have a tiny ooze....possibly not much more than a damp-ish vapor. A light dusting of talc might well serve the same purpose
- Pads and carpets hold the odor seemingly forever. Replace when practical, or give 'em a good washing and drying and let'em air out for a few days
Now, a question......
Can the odor be coming through the hose itself? Has anyone considered (or used?) SAE J1527 marine hose? Sometimes sold as A1-15 hose? Supposed to be ultra-low permeation?
Thoughts? I'm wondering if it might help? It's for low-pressure applications only.....so can't be used downstream of the fuel pump.

Lots of possible sources for the smell as indicated by the various responses. I'd invest in a fuel sniffer like the Tif 8800 to help isolate the source. Very useful and time-saving tool and you can get them used off of ebay for $50-$80. I used one on my XJS to trace the fuel odor source to a wiring bodge through the evaporative flange on top of the tank. Good luck.
I took your advice , but used mother nature’s fuel sniffer. After clambering half into the boot I think the smell is strongest from the lower pipe on the fuel pump. I have used lots of jubilee clips during the renewal( everything has been changed) and I don’t think some are up to the job. I am going to change the clip and see how I get on . Thanks to all who contributed as it did help.
