Agreed, expensive wrenches go a long way here.

Interesting terminology - in the US we call a shaft between the diff and the wheel an axle!

BTW tailshaft is the bit coming out of the transmission, propshaft goes between box and diff, drive shafts between diff and wheel.

Oh and I remembered wrong, on mine as on all 12s the tailshaft is fixed. Hence the sliding joint in the propshaft.

we also call a bonnet a hood, and a hood a roof, a wing a fender, and a spoiler a wing. but hey, its not like we invented the traditional car format or anything.......

No indeed not. That was done by a Monsieur Panhard: Rad, engine, gearbox, propshaft, diff, axle, in that order as a system!

Can you get the bolts out of the flange at the red diff? If so you can swing the prop shaft enough to get more access to the front flange bolts.

Just grind down a socket or box-end until they fit. I have a whole set of ground-down box ends as well as quite a few sockets too.

Default Good riddance ?

Just a dumb question. What went awry with your V12 that you needed to get rid of it ? Seems like you put quite a bit of effort into it. States that salt their roads never make getting bolts apart any fun.

i would be willing to take a gamble that my XJS is the least rusty on this entire forum.

so thats the way of the beast.

Rusty ones run great but will kill you.
Clean ones dont run at all.

Crappy cell phone quality. sorry.

it took a lot of fighting and fussing to get the driveshaft out and i eventually caved.

I dunno about that. Mine has surface rust on the trunklid and that's it. Even the factory exhaust and shields came off with handtools!

just by looking at the headers, you should be able to count how many cylinders it has. and its a Pontiac motor.
