Speaker replacement?

Speaker replacement?
Has anyone found a good aftermarket speaker that fits without any modifications? I removed one of the OEM speakers and it measures 4.625 inches between the mounting holes. This appears to be a non-standard size, at least according to Crutchfield. I would like to keep the existing speaker grill that is integrated with the door card.

I installed some speakers that were a slightly different size (maybe a standard size?), retaining the original speaker grilles. I ended up bending the grilles' threaded rods outward, slotting the holes on the speakers, and cutting the rods short once the speakers were fitted.
I replaced the rear speakers too. For those, I removed the originals, cut out some recesses in the plywood mounting panels so that the grille mounting nuts could sit in them, and reinstalled the grilles without speakers. I then cut their threaded rods flush with the back of the plywood panels. This allowed me to screw bigger 6x9-style speakers onto the backs of the plywood panels without their cones being skewered by the threaded rods of the speaker grilles.

I used Cadence S QR-422 in the rear and Q-422 in front. No mods required. I did the fronts earlier and when I went to get the same for the rear the "new" replacement was the QR. I bought them on Amazon. I think the Cadence website has all the dimensions available so you can verify.
how do they sound?

Like car speakers, IOW "ok". Better than the originals anyway I think. Full disclosure, I'm an audiophile with more invested in home audio than vehicle. Call me an audio snob if you like. I think they're good enough for driving considering road noise etc., but it's a personal thing. The amp is the limiting factor I think. I'm running collector plates so swapping that is a non-starter.

I use to build my own sub boxes back in the day and do the car audio thing. Until I got married the first time lol.

Has anyone installed a separate amp and a sub in their XJ-S? Where did you physically fit them? The front seats are so low and they sag so much that that there's not really enough room underneath them. I wouldn't want to permanently sacrifice boot space for audio gear, as the boot isn't huge.. I imagine that a sub in the boot area would be more audible outside the car than inside, due to the fuel tank etc blocking some of the sound?
The reason I used the speakers I did was because I was carrying them over from a previous car. I've got the tweeters mounted on the A pillars (using one of the original trim screws, not making new holes in the trim), and that works well if you're careful not to hit your head on them when getting in and out..
