Speedometer needle pegged

Speedometer needle pegged
Beautiful stretch of sun we are having in the Puget Sound region in the Pacific Northwest, just awesome. Need some help please, 1995 jag XJS 4.0L, went to take a drive this evening, I had left the key on overnight and the battery was dead. Put the charger on and after a short time fired it up. As I was driving I noticed the speedometer needle was pegged and would not return to zero. Could this be related to the battery going dead? How do I get to the spedo to fix it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

speedometer pegged
Thanks for the tip. Disconnected the battery waited awhile, reconnected, speedometer still pegged. Is it possible I could have damaged something by using my battery charger? What diagnostics can I perform, and how do I get to the instrument cluster? The odometer and tach work fine. I have the electrical diagram for this model (1995 aj16 engine) the transducer is on the differential. The speedometer needles wiggles a bit when I turn the ignition key on and off. Thanks again for all the help everyone offers on this forum.

It's working
Took the jag for little shake down drive, top down, not too hot, beautiful evening. Speedo still not working, as I was going up a hill I stepped on it kicked into a lower gear, next thing I know the spedo was showing 70 mph, yyyyeeeesssss, must have been mechanically stuck. I love my Jag.
