The best way to prevent a meltdown is keep the ignition system in top shape, particularly correct spark plug gap and good wires....and replacing the cap and rotor before a meltdown occurs. And...importantly....stop driving at the slightest hint of trouble.
After that, a dab of silicone inside the rotor. And/or trimming the rotor ....the details of which escape my memory at this exact moment. Old age !
