tach accuracy/revs
my jag has the 4L 6
i think my tach shows high aether that or the shift points re-limiter has been raised and possibly rear end ratio if its correct
in sport mode the tach will go all the way to 7000 rpm before the auto transmission shifts when you put it to the floor. the motor sounds good no valve float or other issues.
anyone have any light to shed on this topic?

Tachometer Error
My 1994 4.0 automatic delivers 31 MPH in fourth gear with the converter locked. At 120 MPH the tach should be, all other variables considered, (rolling resistance, wind resistance, etc.) right at 3900 rpm. This is theoretical of course, but an indicator that the relationship between your tach/speedo relationship is suspect.
