I bought my 90 XJS last summer and have worried to death about getting the temp guage to ready in the middle of the N or lower. I have read in other places that it should NEVER go above the N.
This will vary depending on the car. There are a few variables. Has someone replaced the temp sender, I put one in my car that read almost near the H when the car was at normal. The temperature gauge will also vary with the cars Voltage, don't know about the FL but my car has no regulator for the gauges so the temp also varies with voltage. You need to check temperature of the car at the head this can be anywhere up to 110°C

Good cleaning out the Radiator this is needed on ALL XJS's. Replacing the thermostats with lower temperature ones will not prevent the car from overheating.

This is normal, all new owners are paranoid about temperature it will pass.

Could be anywhere up to 100°C. The most important thing is not the outright temperature but that the car does not boil.
