Temperature gauge position.

Temperature gauge position.
Hi,
I have a 1992 4.0 xjs.
I am curious to know once the car is warm if the temperature gauge should be constantly sat in the normal position ie centre of gauge? Is there any advise as mine seem to go to 2/3 on hot days round town?
Thanks.

Yep, later cars had that fancy feature.
Manufacturers got tired of Temp Gauge,, and Oil Gauge, fluctuations being rreported.
About 1989ish, many used a Temp Sender with a very WIDE resistance at what was deemed to be Normal. So, unless the thing is really HOT, the gauge stays in the Normal Zone.
Oil gauges were similar.
Real late cars have the Temp Gauge as ECU driven, and those parameters are wide as hell.
If in doubt, a mechanical master Temp Gauge will settle your nerves.
My X300, both S Types, X Type, all sit in the N area no matter what, and I have learnt to live with it,
