Thank you for your Posts!
Just wanted to thank you guys for all your posts on this forum, I have just fired my XJS up after some extensive work and it started first time (as it always has) plus it ran like a dream thanks to all the shared insights etc. saved me finding many things out the hard way...
Replaced all fuel hoses in engine bay (including feed and return at firewall)
Fitted new NGK Plugs and NGK leads (cap and rotor were good so didn't want to risk fitting new ones that could be faulty as some of you have noted!)
New Fuel Sender
Siphoned out debris in bottom of main tank (through Fuel Sender hole way)
New Fuel Filter
Cleaned and Painted Fuel Rail and cross over pipe
Removed and flushed/cleaned fuel injectors, fitted new injector seals
And finally 'Saw' and Cleaned the 'V'!
Thanks again

Very, very satisfying! Ran a few errands and then took her to the Gas station to fill her up (so I could get home ;-)).
A note for members regarding fitting my new fuel sender: I ran the tank low before opening the sender seal, fuel was one inch from the bottom of the opening, when I siphoned out the Gas (only main tank) there was 1 & 1/2 gallons in there. After completing the job and filling the car up until the Garage Pump cut off, my new gauge didn't ready completely full, still approx 1/4 inch from the top of the barrel scale. (I have previously had the dash out and cleaned all earths so I don't think there is an earth issue with the barrel gauge, now I know where 'full' is on the gauge I can live with it!)

If the gauge does not read full when the tank is full, it is either the sender or the gauge at fault. Test the sender first by removing it and fully raising the arm to see if the gauge responds to "Full". Test the low fuel warning light at the same time. It should come on when the tank has about 2 gallons (ten litres) or so left.
If the gauge does not go to full, sender arm fully up, it is probably because the gauge connections are dirty. They need very careful dis-assembly and all contacts cleaned from the cluster plug onwards, including the earths. The Great Palm is very good about how to do this, current actually has to flow though tiny self tappers!
I have done this, and the fix works.

Hi Greg,
It's a brand new gauge so contacts are pristine, I must admit I didn't put a DVM on it prior to fitting to check it was reading full when set to highest point. I guess I will have to take the car out again and empty some fuel )) then I can take the sender out again and check.
I know the barrel gauge is fine and sender connection as those were the first things I tested weeks back by applying relevant voltage etc. Also, the low level warning works fine. So, clearly my 'minor' issue is the new sender (just not hitting fully 'Full').
Thanks for the post (I've did read Great Palm's take on this weeks back but my sender was totally shot...)
