I don't know about the US market, but in the UK, from 1980, at least one rear fog light was mandatory on all new cars. From the time that Jaguar moved to facelift rear lights, all UK XJS were fitted with 2 rear fog lights. But front fog lights were always optional on facelift UK cars.

Do rears have a separate switch to activate if you do not have front fogs? I thought if you wanted to add fronts to a car that did not have them originally, you add a patch cable to provisional wiring and add the new switch in place of one of the interior switches, or something like that.

The 2 types of foglight switches. Top just the rear and bottom front and rear. This is the switch that needs the shorting cable for the front fogs.

Your car will have the top switch for the heated screen and the 2 rear fogs

I just checked and when I pulled back the trunk liner I found the bulb rolling around! It had fallen out of the housing. I put it back in and now have two rear fog lights again!

Rear fog lights were standard with ALL XJSes (and I think the saloons, as well) .. Think about it - the cars were made in England! (in fact, I'm amazed FRONT fogs were not also standard equip. on all models)

Probably because rear fogs have been a legal requirement in the UK since 1980 so Jaguar had to fit them, but front fogs are still not a legal requirement so Jaguar could always charge for them as an optional extra

I believe that all the V12s had all the options like the front fogs, heated seats, memory mirrors and trip computer as standard fitment..

I think intended market had more bearing on standard equipment than facelift vs. pre-facelift.

Throughout the years USA market cars generally had a higher level of standard equipment than other markets. And, among USA cars, the V12 cars had more standard equipment than the 6-cylinder cars and were trimmed to a higher spec.

A person with lots of spare time could go into excruciating year-by-year and market-by-market detail on these things

Cheers
DD
