throttle position sensor
Need Advice Please,
On my 94 xjs 2+2 with 4.0, I am trying to set the TPS. It is the rectangular 6 wire plug and so far I know the following. The top 3 wires are white with blue stripe, green, and black with blue stripe. The bottom 3 wire are red, black with yellow stripe, and green with yellow stripe.
With the key on, I have 5.05 volts on the white with blue stripe and 5.05 volts on the red wire. What and how do I check further and set the tps properly?
Thanks, John

Hi Dave,
When initially attaching the TPS to the closed throttle body and with the key on, there will be the 5.05 volts from the ECU, but then the TPS should be positioned to a lesser voltage for the proper idle speed. On other jag inline 6 engines, it is aprox. 0.25 to 0.75 volts. I am trying to determine which wires I should use for that adjustment.

Dave,
I think I found the answer. Upon reviewing the full electric schematics, three of the 6 wires go to the transmission control module. So that leaves 3 wires to the ECU. As I previously noted, all the other inline 6's have just a 3 wire plug to the ECU. So that leaves 3 wires to the ECU, so knowing which wire is the 5.05 volts from the ECU, I will back probe the other 2 wires and see if that is the adjustment needed of the less than 1 volt for proper idle.
