Default Throttle Position Sensor - Sub EAC9634 for DAC7427

So my TPS has given up the ghost. The correct part for my VIN would be DAC7427. Unfortunately it is no longer produced. The earlier TPS, EAC9634, is still available.

I was able to find a thread on this subject where it was suggested that the earlier one could be subbed in with some simple wire splices as the only difference was the plug into the wiring harness. Unfortunately that thread didn't confirm that approach worked. Does anyone know if I can go with the EAC9634? Thanks,

Here is Jaguar's answer to your question.
I did this replacement a few times years ago at the dealer.
I don't know what is still available.

Thanks! I think that was an earlier change in the part. The one I'm concerned with happened in the 1992 model year and I believe both parts should be red. The one on my car is red but has a green plug instead of that black three prong plug.

It will still work on your car, you just need to change the connector on both the TPS and harness.

Thanks, I've ordered the part. Is there any reason to use a plug at all? I am thinking I will just use butt connectors.

If you are going to use crimps anyway why not cut off your existing pot up close to the part and then crimp the new one on there. Still just a butt connection but still leaves the original plug in place for future convenience.

The new red TPS works fine on all HEs. In my case the loom plug was identical to the plug on the old Bourne-branded black one that had failed, but any decent connector will do fine. The important difference between the two is how the actual TPS fits to the capstan bottom. You can buy the extra bits needed (clearly shown on the ODF in a earlier post, but very expensive from Jaguar) or fab up something suitable, which I did. The main thing if you fab up something, is the spindle of the capstan needs to be modified to have a slot into which the blade of the new TPS can fit, and either a quite deep spacer made or the spindle shortened.
