Well done.
Dex 2 etc is a very old spec.
I have NO idea of your market supply is, but Dex3 is backward compatible to all older specs.
I use Full Synthetic Multi Vehicle Trans Fluid is ALL the Jags. The TH400 (in the V12's) the DG, BW12, BW65/66, ZF in the X300, also the 2 S Types, all get the same trans fluid, keeps the fuzzies out of my head, ONE container does all.
The TH400 is NOT a fussy transmission in any shape, as long as the fluid is kept clean and fresh, remembering that this transmission works very hardin this application, it will last a very long time.

Look back in the posts. Jaguars may be fussy, but as Grant says the TH 400 is not !!
So draw the conclusion.
As to the synthetics. Probably great in new tech stuff. Just fluff for the old tech stuff. The TH400 is definitely "old tech". But, tough as nails. Keep it cool and with fresh old tech ATF and it will have a long life.
OTH, my daughter's gal pal has a very nice 2001 or so Cadillac Catera. Merely a stop gap and a rebadged German Opel. A nice V6, backed by a 4L30E transmission. A GM box built in Strasbourg, France. At circa 158,00 miles, it is at it's end. Why, I've not the slightest.

Backwards compatible means the later version of a product can be used to replace an earlier version. In this case, there's nothing about the newer formulations that would prevent them from working well in an older application
I use dexron 3 in my other cars.. but I heard Jaguar were fussy just what to put in the right stuff
Some of the transmissions in modern Jags (and other cars) have *very* exacting fluid requirements. Not the older ones; nothing exotic needed. Personally I use whatever brand Dex III is on sale that day.
and do jaguar go by qt.. or pints and how many does it take... Thanks for your time
Most of the manuals for older Jags go by pints.
The TH400 trans holds about ten quarts but you can't drain it all at once. All you can do is drain the pan...by either suction via the filler tube or by removing the pan. You'll need about 4 USA quarts for this although, if you remove the pan and walk away for a day or two another quart will come out....drip by drip by drip .
If your fluid is very old and dirty you may want to repeat the drain and fill process 4 or 5 times with a short drive in between. Or do a transmission flush...which itself is a bit of a chore but easier than dropping the pan several times on an XJS V12
Cheers
