Transducer replacement
Am I going to have to get the car up in the air to replace the transducer in my '87 coupe?
I thought it connected to the transmission but maybe it is back on the differential.
My SpeedO and Tach were bounding all over the place. I thought maybe the instrument panel contacts were getting fouled from being 30 years old. Got them all cleaned so next step is the sending unit. Any other ideas? Thx.

The differential mounted speed sensor was introduced at VIN 142xxx or something like that, during the [USA]1988 model year

Transducer has nothing to with teh Tacho.
We fit a dedicated earth wire from the instrument pack board to the nearby bulkhead bolt. Loooooong wire, so the pack can be extracted before you run out of wire.
The earth path on that circuit board is easy to follow, and then simply attach to one of the screws.
ALSO
Clean and reseat ALL the small screws and wave washers on that board. I found some small Brass Star Washers in my many stashes of stuff, and used them in lieu of the wave washers, got a better contact.
That alone, sorted odd gauge behaviour, and the earth wire finished the oddities 100%.

Mine was replaced recently. The speedo just quit, then came back to life and shortly after that quit for good. I jacked up the car with jackstands and found it still very close quarters and wasn't able to accomplish much. The car was going into the shop for some other things so I asked them to do it while up on the lift. The mechanic said he was unable to unplug the wiring because of how it had been secured above the tranny. The transmission mount had had it as well, so that was replaced/repaired as well while allowing access to where the transducer wire connector.
I looked in my service manual that I had bought and it said to access it though a cover on the interior. Put the seat all the way back, pulled the carpet and removed the little cover and I could barley see it in there. Maybe if I had taken the seat out I would have had better access. Tight quarters everywhere on this car!
