transmission swap on a 96 6cyl 4.0.l
I think my current transmission is the ZF4HP24E (correct?)... it has about 170k miles and it stopped shifting about a year ago... I was wondering if the GM 4L80E would be a straight bolt on swap?
which one is more reliable?
would I be better off rebuilding my current one or buying a rebuilt 4L80-E?
what other things to consider?
Thanks

Get the ZF rebuilt. They are good transmissions.
I'm not even sure the 4L80E would bolt up. It was used behind the supercharged 4.0 but I *think* those blocks had a different bolt pattern or an adpater plate was used.
Next is the electronic compatability between the 4L80E and your car's electrical architecture. Could be a big problem.
Lastly, even if you could make it work, the 4L80E is heavier and sucks off more power than the ZF.
Cheers
