Trip computer
Hi all.
A question I have an old style trip computer and I can’t work out what’s happening. I reset it today went for a drive of around 50 miles and it is reading on the fuel used setting 189.7. Any ideas want this relates to. I also don’t get anything sensible on the average and instant settings. Clock works fine I am thinking it might be the fuel interface unit up the shoot DAC2589.

Sometimes just disconnecting and reconnecting the plugs restores proper operation. Sort of a 'reboot'. Or the fiddle-factor serves to jostle some weak solder joints back into operation.
I think we'll be seeing more and more of these rather elderly trip computers going on the fritz, suffering the same fate as many other 80s-90s vintage solid state electronic devices: old age.
I have a bucket full of dead or semi-dead units.
Cheers

Part of why I just leave mine on clock lol. I do a rough figure of mpg when I fill up the old fashioned way. I remember reading something about they don't read the same way most do, whether it's doing an instant measure or something else, I remember it was a little bit weird the way it was explained

Hate to put this out in the ether, but my 93 works perfectly. Maybe it's because I use a lot of the functions frequently. The real-time AVG is my "go to" to tell me if the motor is running properly by comparing combined and hwy mpg regularly. Also, even with a new fuel sender installed, the fuel gauge isn't an accurate indication of total miles on a full tank.

I actually started trying to use my instant mpg setting here and there, and I can say that I was amazed at how big of a hit to the shown mpg a small increase in pedal pressure makes on mine! I mean if I'm just going along at 50 or so with my foot barely on the pedal it reads around 24-28 mpg! Then when I add what feels like a quarter to half of an inch of pressure, it drops to 12-14! 😳😳😳😳 I guess that's why I generally average 16-18.5 mpg! Drrrrr
