Under car cross support

Under car cross support
Burning question: What is the purpose of the two X supports under front and rear of car? They look too flimsy to do any real supporting of anything and couldn't possibly add any stiffness...could they? Installed on all XJS cars or just convertibles?
These pics are from a car listing showing the undercarriage. (not my car).

Hi C&P
Those Cross Braces add Torsional Stiffness and were introduced on Convertibles from 1993 where they were reckoned to be: Quote. 'The most effective change ever made to a Jaguar'

this helped some for front scuttle shake, not perfect but maybe with bottom crosses would improve twist of body front to rear on hard accell.
also pic of Aston Martin rear body stiffener bulkead, for prototype XJS-C.
back in the 70s Grp44 changed the whole rear cage setup, just to keep the car straight comin off the turns, said it was like a snake wiggling.
they found that with the XKE V12s, some bad comments about it!

I take alot of inspiration from my 'performance' diesel truck and it has provided a useful working example - the big F-350 trucks can often and should be fitted with additional (very very stiff) shocks on what you would call anti-roll or stabilizer bars and the difference is night and day.
Maybe not necessary for your every day touring car XJS but I want to try as I have nothing better to do then throw time and parts at my car.
