Trias and error...

Though an open exhaust Rolls Royce Merlin sounds best... So why not a fully open Jaguar V12?

Probably because it sounds like a large tractor!

Sounds good! Not joking. Maybe a bit raspy on occasion.

I think these cars need big diameter pipes to drop the pitch and get a rich fat sound. Not loud, but throaty and deeper.

3”ers would be heck to get over the rear suspension, but could be done by a good shop. Under would be ok. Borla makes a good 3” offset open path replacement for the front boxes and a very nice straight through replacement for the rears.

One day I’ll find a shop I trust and have them fab this up. 400 for the Borlas and maybe 4-500 for the work.

Pipe dream version: equal length hand sand-bent headers from Italy to cutouts switching between above twin dual Borla setup and twin wide open lake pipes.

Great comparison, same car, same location...

It's taken a while and several attempts but this is the best the I can come up with for interior sound of the middle boxes removed.
Marvel at the beauty of our luscious English countryside and quaint villages.
Marvel at the morons that think that driving at 10mph is acceptable.
Be amazed at the local wildlife that think it is perfectly ok to amble across the road junctions and check how much horse **** they have picked up in their flip flops.
Or just stand in the frigging road.
Be stunned that I still have a picture of my very first Jag (Ada, Daimler Sovereign) on the garage wall.
The microphone just doesn't pick up the engine noise properly; I tried it with the windows down and all I could hear was wind roar on the recording.

nice... it had a nice sound on the throttle and could hardly hear it tooling around town. That's what I want. I'm going to go see how much my muffler guy will charge me for a straight pipe tomorrow.

Thanks for posting that Steve. Lovely noise, even if a bit loud for me, but I quite see why you and others go for it.
But my main grumble is that your lovely video will reinforce our American Cousins' view that all of England looks like it does in your video! FYI, guys, only about 2% of it does!

It helps if you live in an AONB -Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (me, obviously!), and a Conservation Area; unless of course you want to modify your Grade 2 listed building in any way whatsoever in which case you are totally screwed.

I'm going up to Oxford today or at sparrow fart in the morning; I'll see if I can get some motorway noise.
It's really awkward to mount the camera due to the rake of the windscreen; the only place it will fit is right in front of the mirror and can't even see if it is switched on or not.
