Default V12 AAV rebuild with kit, observations.

My 82 was starting at a very upset 400rpm and needed some gentle foot in the beginning, then the revs climbed steadly to about 1400 where it stayed when warm.

Having done the thumb in the airbox test i concluded that is was (perhaps amongest other things) the AAV valve. After reading up on them i decided to get the kit for 80 euros.

The kit is of a good quality, however the replacement ''piston'' is quite loose in the bore, its a lovely bit of SS kit, but by comparison to the other one loose.......................now, how much is too loose that it starts to mess with the vacuum is above my pay grade, but i was not chancing it so i spritzed up my old one and used that.

When dissembling it before grinding you might want to try using a socket extension as a drift and go in from the top.

When assembling it you may want to ''tune'' the thermowhatzit in hot water. l found that mine did not close all the way at 80 odd C so i drove the thermo thing in further and that solved it.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, as has been written, before you do it get the 90% top pipe as it will split, even of you warm it first and ease it off with silicon spray ^&*(ing thing! Either that or if you happen to have a 1987 FZR750 floating about the top rad hose will do in a pinch.

lt now starts and goes to 1000rpm and slowly makes it way down to 800. l havent synced the throttle bodies yet, when i have done so i will fine tune the slow running, but im 3 turns out on the bolt so i should have no problem getting 750rpm.

Not a hard job, the usual fiddly V12 work space but well well worth it!

Stone the Crows, now this is a reversal of information flow.

To be honest i would not recommend this kit unless its a last resort, if you look around you can find them online, otherwise in a pinch i got this sellers information from a video on AAVs by ''Living with a Classic'' on youtube.

Personally i think the piston is too small, it literally wobbles in there and i do not think its a good enough seal to do the job 100% (read Grants article on the subject, he illuminates this point). This is just my opinion, the seller also rebuilds them so im sure they are happy people out there, im just not one of them.

Nevermind... I deciphered your paragraph as a reference to that elbow section of hose that goes from the top of the AAV to the LH intake manifold... A warning about it splitting or cracking when trying to remove or install it - having a spare... No worries. Thanks...

Does anyone here have any information on which direction the fuel pot is turned for a richer or leaner mixture?

My ECU is in place with the POT access hole in the RH side facing the outer rear fender. As it's supposed to sit. I have a make shift handle on the D shaped POT adjustment post and I'm trying to figure out - do I click it forward or back,,, for say a LEANER mix... Which way is which on that thing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
