V12 HE ignition coil
Guys
I recently took a look at my ignition coils. I have the original OEM twin coil setup (this was changed to a single coil for later V12s, but for reasons unknown I like to keep the twin coil setup). No real symptoms caused this, high rev performance was fine, starting fine, hot starts taking a little longer than before.
The main coil was fine, but the auxiliary coil, located in front of the radiator stack on the valence behind the grille, was a shock! Under its rubber boot, both terminals were totally encrusted with rust from the steel nut and washers corroding. When I removed the wires, one coil post just twisted off rather than the nut turn.
I had a new one in my spares stock, so cleaned up the eyes on the loom ends and refitted, covering each post and nut with a good gob of nickelslip grease. I refitted the boot and did my best to seal the thing with gunk.
I last looked at this about 8 years ago, so if anyone has not looked at theirs, terminals hidden under the rubber boot as they are, it might be worth a look.
