V12 head removal tool measurements
#41
I feel the single plate design is perfectly adequate for safely removing the heads. I don't really see a need for the extra plate and hardware needed for the 2-plate design.
As soon as I get the dimensions needed for the single plate design I will have it made and tested.

Head Puller Dimensions
Good Luck with the puller Mark. If you want a shortcut to obtaining all the required dimensions you might want to try here?

The tool may be a bit of an animal but it hasn't been known to fail yet. It makes the job easy, is satisfying to use and can sort out the Greek debt crisis (OK - I made the last bit up).
All proceeds are added to my project money-pit (or maybe just a few beers to help oil the wheels)

Too help offset the cost I've been thinking about bolting all of the cars up to a wheel and taking it to the local carnival. I'll charge a buck per ride in a genuine "Jag-wire".

More often than not a more flimsy tool will work. However, I have come across engines where the damn heads are pretty much stuck. This beast will pull heads even if the odd nut is left in - not recommended though :-)

I have had my step son build one of these "tools" using the pdf and a CNC machine at his work and the dimensions are all spot on, it slips over the cam bolts fine and every bolt hole lines up with the studs poking through the head.
The interesting thing is that even after using lots of penatrating fluid and hours soaking the head will not come off. I have so far bent two sets (14 bolts each time) of 8.8 grade bolts trying to pull the head up. The bolts bend so much i have to cut them off as they cannot be undone without damaging the thread in the "tool".
Any advice would be welcome
Well how embarrassing I was in to much of a hurry to try the new "tool" and I didn't have all the nuts undone! what a idiot i must remember the additional nuts on the timing cover

If you are having the head machined, have it done by someone who knows these engines.. The heads can warp, and if the shop only machines the side that goes against the block,, when you install it, the other side gets twisted and the cam can't rotate.. Have them machine both the top and bottom of the head.
Don't forget that if the head is machined, you will have to adjust the valves.

RGP JCNA does not rent tools but rather loan them to members. https://www.jcna.com/tool-loan Recently we were allowed by our carrier to stock the one and only tool that is not factory-----a V 12 head puller!

I appreciate everyone's effort to help. Maybe there is some confusion in what I call the "Neville" tool and what other people are thinking of. I purchased the plans from Neville Swales for a very unique looking two-plate tool. The pictures to which I was referred are all for the single-plate type puller. I am currently borrowing a single-plate type but, I am paying a machine shop to produce the two-plate tool.
My question is does anyone have any photos of the two-plate (I call it "Neville" tool) in use. Sorry if I confused anyone. Thanks.
