Default V12 Worn Throttle Linkage (and ECU adjust)

What are we gonna do about worn throttle linkages? Of course there's the commonly replaced linkage bushing (C34388) but, if my car is a representative example, there is wear throughout the linkage system. To take out the slop the rods are adjusted to, in essence, pre-load the mechanism...which only adds additional wear.

Specifically, see item #5 here:
https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/u...kage-5-3-litre

On my car the holes are worn on this ^^^^ piece....although there IS a bushing available for the main shaft, surprisingly

Has anyone drilled out all the holes and installed nylon (or whatever) bushings?

Thoughts? Experiences?

There's also wear where the throttle blade shaft goes thru the throttle body as well. Rebushing the shaft is common with old carburetors so I suspect it would be a routine job for a good carb shop.

As for adjusting mixture at the ECU......

A while back I installed a Super-enhanced ECU from AJ6 Engineering. It dawned on me that I never tweaked the mixture adjustment. Doing so was worthwhile...even though I was already happy with the way the engine behaved. I could plainly hear and feel the engine 'sweeten up' as I turned the adjuster. I ended up 3 clicks rich from the initial setting.

It may sound silly but it was a very 'satisfying' thing After all these years it still brings a little smile to my face.

Cheers
DD

Mine were badly worn the bush holes were oval. I drilled them out and machined new bushes from Acetyl. I made them fit from the inside so they cannot fall out. That was about 6 years ago now and they are still fine. I have a mill but you could do it in a drill press as the holes don't need to be accurate to tenths. I used a slot drill as they are much less flexible than a regular drill .

Thanks Warren.

Do you have excess wear elsewhere in the linkages and, if so, how did you repair?

Cheers

Linkages were ok, it was the plate and ends of the rods that were badly worn because the bush was missing so the rod was turning in the plate. I had 2 spare rods off my 6.0L to replace the worn ones. There is no reason you couldn't make new rods cut a thread on one end, I can't remember if the thread is LH or RH.

I have an Ostrich 2 emulator that allows real time remapping.
