Hope fully someone will chime in on this. for about the last year been cleaning and replacing parts under the bonnet, anyhow thought I had taken plenty of pics of the vacuum lines but either I missed this one or the gremlins removed the picture. does someone have an idea were this one hooks up to. it is on the right side, back at the firewall and runs down.the XJS is a 1984

Your car probably has more connections than mine (no emissions on mine) but choices at the rear of the manifold there include gearbox modulator or heater a/c vacuum supply tank. Do you have a spare teat for it. Looks a bit like a spare 'T' connector in one of the hoses in your pic?
I have similar looking hoses on my 3.6 that drain the scuttle area under the windscreen wiper grill - one each side. They poke through holes in the inner wing to drain to the outside world.
Apologies if this is a bum steer and your hoses are not the same.
can you get a picture of the whole area

this line is on the right side back at the fire wall, maybe this pic will tell more, but it may be going to the transmission, if I am right, does it connect to the inlet manifold?
it looks like its under the right side throttle links , and looks like its come of the rear of the right plenum chamber right by the red pipe in the picture, if so it could be the vac control for the transmission
there is also a ' T ' connector right above it on another vac pipe, either way , its a vac pipe, push it on somewhere
plug it into that empty port there on the manifold and that "T" remove it or find what's missing from it. that might be the "t" that connects to the blue full throttle vac switch. and breaks off into the hvac system in the car.
Thanks for all your help, as I mentioned I took pictures, pictures, and more pics during this "operation" but somehow missed or accidentally deleted. But did some further checking in the parts catalog and yes it is for the tranny, so I will hook it either to the "T" connector or to an empty space on the manifold,
You all were a great help, will post some updated pictures possibly this weekend

I see you went went with the blue silicon hoses, were I went with black, but my water lines are the red. have you had any problems with them, so far I like the thickness and tightness if the connections

no never, I can honestly say fit and forget I only used blue so I could see them all without groping around to much, I used red on the window washers.
I had fitted silicone smaller water hoses but didn't trust them so I changed back to rubber,
I am actually away until monday the 14th remind me again around then
thought I would wait a bit before asking again about getting as many possible pics of how your vacuum lines are run, the Jag diagrams are not the best as compared how the other companies did them. although I took many upon many pics some did not capture well or did not rally show well enough due to the grunge on the motor and the lines being black, I am sure I have most done proper, so I figure with your pictures and mine being done I will attempt to to some decent diagrams from them in the future, may start on that this winter, appreciate your help and thanks
ive had a look at the engine and I cant see any way to photo the vacuums except the ones on the inlet manifolds, which are well documented on here, i have found all the information i needed via google, hope you find what you need to know
