A year ago my wife and I went to see the display of ceramic poppies at the Tower of London to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of World War1.
A very moving display which was added to by the personal stories pinned to the railings surrounding the Tower. Old, fuzzy, black and white pictures of former soldiers, pictures of families left behind and even the occasional item of uniform.
Next to one of the above was a picture of a teenager who had been recently killed on active service in Afghanistan. This reminded me that sacrifice is not just something buried in the musty pages of history but is happening today and will happen tomorrow.
So, I would also like to add my thanks,
LeeP

Thank you.
I served in the US army, 52-55. Korea was a destination for many of us. I got lucky and went to Germany. No shooting war there, but a USSR threat in full force.
Thanks to all, most recently, Iraq and Afghanistan. It was/is as tough as it gets for
those guys.
As per my custom, I flew the colors yesterday and rendered as snappy a salute as I can. Still pretty good. Bad shoulders and all.....
We will remember.
