I have a "parts car?" 91 Series 1 Facelift coupe. It has a 8/91 build date with VIN # 182210. All body tags/stickers and Cowl stamping match the VIN.
I'm considering buying a "nice" (haven't seen in person yet) 91 Series 1 coupe. It has a 9/91 build date with VIN # 181919. Only received one picture of a matching body tag/sticker, no picture of Cowl stamping yet.
Assuming the later is a legit car; how can the VIN of the 2nd car be before the VIN of the 1st car yet having a build date one month later? I will post a picture of the tags later. The 1st car is white, the 2nd is blue with blue interior (JFJ JEF codes) The 2nd car I'm considering

It could be that there is only 1 DAY difference in build depending on when it rolls over. I imagine there could be various legitimate reasons for one car to frog leap another in the numbering, quite possibly the paint colour difference.

Right!
Cars don't necessarily roll down the assembly line in exact numeric sequence...for any number of reasons.
And, VINs are often assigned very early on, before the car is really even born.
That is actually a '92 model ("N" in the VIN) is yours an MC182210 or NC182210?
Didn't know that..THANK YOU.
My car is "NC" also. So it's "Officially" a 92MY... Gotta Fix my signature.haha..Trying to get a picture off my phone to post the VIN tag.
I think baxtor may be correct in that they batch cars for painting the same color; as well as Doug saying they assign the VINs early on.
I was finally able to upload a picture of my car's VIN. Notice this build date 1 month earlier, but VIN is couple hundred later than pic above.
Guess you guys solved the mystery. Wonder when in the build the Cowl gets stamped. That must occur early on? Then a "Tag" is added later?
