Warning on face lift coupe windshields
For all those with 92 to 95 coupes be aware there is a serious shortage of windshields. The dealers no longer have them in stock and there will be no more made through the Jag heritage people. It took me four months to find one original oem XXX and one after market unit.
Last October I wanted to replace my original windshield which had a lot of pits. The dealer got me a new one which turned out to be a miss-labeled convertible unit. These are not interchangeable with the coupe
They then searched all the dealers in the country and located one at a South Carolina dealership. But it was broken in shipping. Doesn't it figure.
From then on I had numerous conversations with the Heritage folks who went back and forth about getting new ones made but finally said they were never going to have new ones made. They advised going aftermarket.
I located two Chinese made units and had one shipped up from San Diego. However the fit was very poor and leakage an issue without major efforts to seal properly
Fortunately we located an original XXX Triplex unit in a warehouse in Las Vegas. it had an inch of dust it had been there so long. It is now installed and I am keeping the aftermarket unit as a backup since there may not be any more oem units in the United States and attempts to locate one in England proved unsuccessful.
The rubber gasket is a dealer only item and they are in stock for now.

Ran into the same problem with my '91 coupe. The original windshield was in good but not great shape, so when I developed a leak and needed some minor body work done near the windshield, decided to replace the glass as well as the seals.
Took three weeks to track down a new windshield, finally found one in a warehouse in Ohio. I was told it was the last new one in the entire US...

I'm guessing the windscreen for the earlier pre-facelift cars is different? Or all all coupe windscreens the same?
If the pre and post facelift screens are different, then I'm guessing that the shortage isn't surprising. If you can believe Wikipedia (It's on the internet....so it must be true??) out of 27,406 total units built during the facelift years (91-96?? Thought it was 92-96) only 8, 832 units were coupes with the remaining balace of 18,574 units being convertibles. So I imagine there was not a whole lot of factory replacement windscreens produced in the first place.
My windscreen is starting to de-laminate (the glass and plastic sandwiched together is separating, causing it to look cloudy) in the passenger side lower corner. Wasn't a high-priority before....

Yikes! My front screen is a bit pitted and just assumed I could call local glass dealer that installs replacement windshields, never thought they wouldn't have one.
A friend said he had a BMW windshield treated to minimize pits and scratches. Looks brand new, but now the shop is closed. Anyone heard of such a treatment?

XJS windshield
Odd that people are having a problem locating these. I just had my 89 coupe windshield replaced, installed $306 (glass $189). My 90 convertible was $312 (glass $194). Sounds like the typical it's a Jaguar let's overcharge. Took glass guy less than 10 minutes to locate one and 48 hours later they were installed. He said he could get them any day of the week. Had it done in Atlanta, Georgia.

Let me make this clear. Convertible windshields for face lift cars (92-96) are available, there were lots of these sold. Pre Face lift coupes do not use the same windshield, they are not interchangeable. Also, an oem quality glass will be considerably more expensive than the aftermarket units. But the fit is assured with the oem.

Windshield replacement for facelift coupes
Hi! I own a 1993 Jaguar XJS hardtop. The windshield needs to be replaced and there is bodywork underneath it that needs to be done. My installer didn’t want to move in it till he knew he had a replacement - which he couldn’t find. I found a replacement at Pilkington Glass. When I called they had 13 brand new in stock in Ohio. They also have glass for every other car ever created, it seems. I will let you know how it goes if you are interested. The other weird issue is the rubber seal around the window. Nobody seems to know which part to use... including Jaguar. Weird. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

Pre-facelift cars have a different screen that is held in by rubber, facelift cars use a bonded screen.

Years ago I had a plastic windshield made for a "69 Lotus Elite. Although it fit well the distortion looking though it was severe. I was through with the body work, but the car still required paint. Driving in to town to get an inspection I was stopped by a young police officer. I feel sure he stopped me because of the visual condition of the car. He looked for an inspection sticker on the windshield and I had none. I explained I was on my way to get the car inspected. He looked at the windshield again and said "What's wrong with that windshield?" I said "Why nothing officer. You see with this model car you could have the windshield ground to your eyeglass prescription. You will notice I am not wearing glasses." He said yes and waved me on with a puzzled look on his face. I can imagine him going back to the station house telling all his fellow officers about this guy with the prescription windshield!
