Having huge fun cleaning out the oily cruddy vee, while also replacing the injectors and ignition harness.
Day two of cleaning crud and noticed the connector in the thingy below (located by firewall) is loose in the unit itself (the wire lead which connects to it is not loose where it connects). The perished rubber boot which covered the terminal is all but disintegrated.
A metal line runs from said thingy into the head.
What pray tell is it....... hoping I can get a replacement without selling a kidney? 😞
So new URO non-OEM unit ordered off amazon (a bit worrying they had it). A search online revealed OEM not available, URO brand is most common part out there AND aftermarket parts have poor reliability re. Leaking.
Crap.
Existing one aint leaking, but elec connection looks dubious and I have reasonable access right now. If I take the old one out I can try and solder the base to reinforce the connection. Is there a way I can test it out of the car? Dont want to put everything back together with either a defective existing part or a soon to leak new part 😞
Gather undoing the nut can be tricky, so crowsfoot wrench handy and don't snap the alloy mount!

Hey, need to replace it as well, what is the part number you bought?
Since you that far down into the Vee and I see from your picture that your distributor vacuum advance is original equipment you may want to seriously consider replacing it. The rubber inside is 35 years old at this point, heat and age (dry rot) take their toll. Also, have you serviced your distributor shaft and centrifugal advance weights?

You mean this?
I checked the rotor snaps back and it does. Also added a few drops of oil to lubricate the advance weights.
Is there anything specific to be done for the distributor shaft?
