What did you do to or buy for your XJ-S/XJS today?

So a couple days ago I took the 78 up to work for the annual car show. She ran like a freight train for 35 miles. Smooth, powerful, tracked straight, everything good. I shouldn't complain, as I have spent 2 years getting the engine, brakes and steering working good. Unfortunately, it is about 50 miles to work, and after the first 35 miles it ran rough, cut out, and I ended up on the side of the road. I tried to do roadside diagnostics, and reached the conclusion that I did not have enough fuel pressure. The pump ran, I had good spark out of the coil, but the fuel lines were soft, and I could feel each injector pulse. Not as scientific as using a fuel pressure gauge, but I did not have a pressure gauge with me. I have a fuel pump ordered, I hope that is the next big deal, that will allow me to drive without ending up on the side of the road.

I am reasonably sure it is more than the filter. It is quite new and I have checked it for a restriction by verifying fuel flows freely through it, and blowing through in both directions.
The swirl tank has been cleaned, and there was free flow from the swirl tank to the pump when I was sitting on the side of the road, taking things apart to try to diagnose it. And once it has cooled, it starts right up, like it never had a problem. I'm pretty convinced it is the pump.

is your air conditioner working ? Isn't there a part of it that cools the fuel so it does not boil in the injector lines?
just asking... 35 miles good then no go... Hmmm....

It looks like this thread needs a bump anyway.
After too much delay, I got a new fuel pump in my 78 XJ-S. It is a cheap oriental copy of a Bosch pump (044?) that apparently is popular with the fast and furious crowd. A revised pump mounting and some new fuel hose and it is again running. Cold rain today, I did not get it out of the garage. I have great hopes this is the answer to my hot stall. I sure will not be a happy camper if it does not repair that issue.

I replaced the fuel pump last week and got the old girl out for a drive today. I was able to give my Father in Law a ride, he is British and was a mechanic for many years and really enjoyed the ride in the XJ-S. My grandson came along and he enjoyed it too. We drove about 15-20 miles, and it ran great. I got back home, and now my granddaughter, who was not ready to go when we first left, was ready to go so she and I went out, for another 10-15 miles. She tells me her dad's Corvette is faster. Kids, what do they know. Toward the end, it started to break up under load again. DARN! The further I went the less load or acceleration was needed to make it break up.
It was cool and shouldn't have needed a fuel cooler, but the AC was on and functioning. I will take Pauls suggestion and change te fuel filter before anything else. I am suspecting the ECM or injector driver that sits on the radiator support, but neither is hot to the touch. I have convinced myself the fuel filter is not plugged, but I'll see how it is after I replace it.

It's raining, so i guess the cat wanted me out
I share an xjs with my son. He called and said there was some coolant on the ground, and it steamed when he started it but could not see where it was coming from.
Rather than risk him driving home, I drove the 2 &1/2 hours to visit with a set of tools. Once there, found the rear heater hose had a pin hole and was spraying out onto the exhaust. This was in San Luis Obisbo, home of parts supplier xks unlimited, but they were not open this time on Saturday. Managed to remove and replace with a length of straight hose, and have ordered a full set of hoses that the said son can collect from xks and we can replace all over the holidays. Might need extra holidays to do all. .
Once I finished with the replacement, and filled it, and tested it, it stopped raining. That was my sign that it was ok.

Anti lock and brake light on a few weeks ago just before I was going to let my grand daughter drive it back to the house after we took a ride. (she was visiting from NJ)... Pedal went hard and difficult to stop, so I just continued the drive home. She did get to drive my 78 450sl and she was happy. But the Jag is sooooooooo much nicer !!!!! Anyway, after a lot of reading about the system and posting some questions, finally had to brake down (lol) and replace the accumulator (ouch $$)... But it's working fine now.

Went by my friends house that is a retired machinist, and checked out the 3.3l whipple supercharger he is modifying so I can put it in the V of the 6.0 I am building for my XJS. Yesterday I got the confirmation of the custom set of Total Seal rings for this project. Mailed them a piston, and Ed Law has me a set on the way.
