Regarding the Oil Pressure Gauge, does it read zero at cold start?

Or only after warm up?

It starts low and settles down to zero within the first mile or two.

Took it out for a blast today; no more petrol smell.
Still only 3 1/2 brakes but it smells all leathery whilst heading for the ditch.
Result!

Took the starter to pieces today. Heck, a 1.8 KW starter from Marelli... Okay, okay, a half-Italian... The solenoid and gears are from Lucas. But still... Cleaned it up, gave it a fresh coat of paint, checked the motor, everything is fine. Should keep the engine turning for a few years - hopefully

Removed the Injectors and Fuel Rail as all the Injectors were stuck and as such will need to be taken to a place for professional cleaning.

Also replaced all the Spark Plugs with 12 new NGK BR7EF.

The whole job took me a couple of days, as the 1 and 2 plugs on 'A' and 'B' Bank were stuck fast and I had to be very careful that I didn't break anything.

Lining up the Bolt Holes on the Air Con Motor was also a PIA but finally managed to do it, so now its off to get the injectors cleaned.

Default Loads of pics! Don't complain - please

Been busy again. As the front axle is not ready yet. The subframe is undergoing some substantial work (has a rust hole which needs to be filled so that has been outsourced to my local metal shop) so I am basically only prepping to make sure that I can install all parts again once here.

So, today I took the hubs apart and finished the lower wishbones (well, simply putting two new bushes in each one isn't really that hard now is it? ). Oh, I'll start off with fitting the starter... That wasn't hard job.

Daim,
I just can not express how much I would like to thank you for these post....
right now my XJS is my daily driver... but with in the next few years I will buy a beater and down the XJS and go through it like I did the Sprite on my restore/build...
I find these post greatly informative and comforting... (huh?)

I will just have to control my urge to polish and chrome things....

Thanks for the like

It take tim documenting a restoration. And I'm not even finished with the front end! =-O

And that is only 1/4 of the car... Lots more to come like the rear axle, exhaust, interior, windscreen... Body work will be done by a pro... Can't do that - yet

We have a ministry for the special needs kids at my church, and one of them, Angel - 11 years old, has really taken a liking to my cars. So last night, I showed him the '94 XJS. His mom showed him the leaper on the hood, which he promptly called a "Puma".

So I guess I found a name for my '94: "El Puma".

Finished the hubs today. POR15 over all the nice areas and new lower balljoints. Just need some new bearings, brake discs, pads, hoses, new subframe, ... Okay, JUST won't do at the moment

Rebuilt my fuel tank sending unit today. Now I can tell how much gas I have left.

This may or may not be a good thing.

Bought a used Series 2 front axle for a pathetic €65 in good condition. Basically just for the subframe... The rest will probably go in the bin

Refurbished the cruise control bellows & rusty bracket. A small job considering the mountain of things I need to do to the car but a satisfying one. One solenoid was a little stuck & the bellow end grooves mis-shapen & leaking a bit.
I glued the original sticker back on for authenticity

Tested with my mouth, holds shut fine now.

NEVER throw any useable bit away! Soon, steering arms, uprights, wishbones, etc etc will be rare as hens teeth!

And at the completely opposite end of the DIY spectrum from people like Daim, today I... bought a screw to replace the missing one from the top of the chrome surround for the RH headlight and screwed it in.

I'm sure now I've done that I'm ready to start rebuilding entire engines.... :P

Well, I can't use the parts, as a) the upper wishbones have a different shape, and b) thr uprights are ABS sensor-free. But I'lö probably keep the parts. As you said before: they'll be rare someday.

Though my subframe is nearly scrap. I doubt anyone will want it

@ on topic

All my missing bits for the front axle arrived, like brand new springs (not uprated) and shocks (normal Boge by ZF), rubbers, nuts, screws, buffers, bushes and co

Just need to pick up the front axle, habe it sandblasted, POR15 it and then I can reassemble the entire unit...

Today: Greg and Grant got my 1990 XJS up and running after being laid up for 16 years.

No surprises this Car wouldn't Start as it turned out that Six of the Twelve Injectors were stuck and the New Spark Plugs weren't Sparking.

Over the course of the last Two Weeks they Showed me what I had to do to fix it and following their Instructions, we got her running Today.

But then disaster happened and in the space of just a Few Seconds, the Car lost ALL THE OIL!

Which I'm hoping was the Oil Cooler and not something more Serious.

Though as its Chucking it down with rain, its a bit hard to tell at the moment.

You bought two, so that still counts somehow here in this thread
