Sold her on. Not enough time to enjoy and keep her running right. Only did 400 odd miles in the last year. Not enough for a V12to stay healthy.
Now to find homes for the spares clogging up my garage… think I may have overdone it as usual. LOL

Replaced the bulb failure module, so I have brake lights now. I did not realize that the key needed to be on for them to work. Just a bit frustrating as I know that the middle brake light worked before and it wasn't dependent on the module to work. Probably the first car I've owned that does that.
I can safely drive it on the street now!
Moved on to removing the driver's door card to figure out why I can't open it from the outside. I think it's broken somewhere in the handle, as nothing was obvious. I have to see if I have a replacement in the goodie box that came with the car.
Lastly, went in search of the power windows thermal breaker to address the fact neither of the windows work. It didn't see it where I expected to so the search continues. Unless I was looking right at it and it didn't look like I expected it to.
I suspect the auxiliary brake light is not wired through the bulb failure module because those lights were only fitted in places such as the US that demanded it. Therefore, Jaguar probably just used a standard module on all XJSs but naturally couldn't run the additional US light through it.

Excellent point Paul. I have a third brake light, an lovely LED long shaped one, and it never occurred to me that it might interfere with the bulb-out warning. I shall go out and remove a brake light bulb and check later! Of course, extra load would not trigger the device, but it might mean when a single bulb (of the three) failed it would not trigger it.
just got it from China. 6 weeks to get it. $12 approx. plastic with a plastic spring clip. a conversation piece but fun and it actually holds the phone well. i'll see how long it holds up.

Hey, thanks. I think I've found it, but it's not mounted exactly in the same place as what the line drawing indicated, but it's within a couple of inches. Funny thing, though...I was under the impression that it can be reset. This one doesn't appear to be the case.
Yeah, the top brake light is not wired through the module. I have the wiring diagrams for my year which confirms it. I'm tempted to see if I can figure out how the module works to see if I can replicate it in the event the 'new' one fails.

You can replace it with a fuse or a resetable circuit breaker

The brake light failure unit has no reset or similar. But it can be carefully taken apart and fixed, see the Great Palm's book on how to do it.
Got it up onto jackstands and slid under to do some preliminary checkout. It is remarkably solid and I think most of the deterioration has happened in the last year while it was outside. the P.O. said it had been inside prior to then. Drained fuel tank.
These arrived from Amazon today. Pity the red will be almost totally invisible. I could almost change these myself, save for worrying about what happened when Orangeblossom tried it and wrecked his ABS by getting dirty brake fluid pushed back up from not undoing the bleed nipples and/or clamping the hose.
However, I'm wondering if I should also replace the front brake rotors as well. The port side one appears to have a deep-ish groove in it.
