how you get there good to stick up so much? Mine prolly goes up about half or even less then that
I have 2 intact grills at home, but the grill I have in the car now is in rough shape and I don't care so much about it. It's cracked in a way that allows me to raise the hood ALL the way. It creeks and groans a little everytime I open it, lol
I've never had the struts connected as over this last 1 1/2 - 2 years.... Im working under the hood so much that dealing with the struts to open the hood WIDE would just be a PITA. But, funny you ask. I was fitting the struts today for the first time... Things are getting good!
Just about done with the front left corner. New ball joints and bushings. Today I replaced the brake disc and pads, resealed the calliper, and replaced the flexible hose. Still need to do the tie rod end, sway bar bushings, and the other side.
took my xjs to have the auto gearbox rebuilt with new seals and whatever, but the mechanic decided to road test it without releasing the hand brake, it ripped every pad off the backing plate, so I took the cradle down and sent everything brake wise off to wards in Colchester for a reconditioning, he had already done my uj's and rear hubs and the last time I did my hand brake was in 2000 so they were on my to do list.

On further inspection they jacked it up on a 4 armed type ramp on the jacking point, it pushed one of the front nipples straight up into the cavity above. So had to weld new one on. Only £9 but the guy was a jag trained man eligedly. So didn't he know the nipple is only a guide for the supplied jack. And it's still leaking, going back july
I think I've read about the mounts collapsing being quite a common thing. Did you reinforce the Internal structure at all when it was repaired?
How are you supposed to position a jack around these nipples then? Use some sort of puck with a hole in the middle?
If your talking jacking the car up on the jacking points I use pieces of plywood with holes cut in them for the locating lugs / nipples.
I never jack up the car directly on them, Not sure if they would hold? Looks like they may not based on the above.

As jagduke jag says. + I have 2 offcuts of 4x2 with a hole drilled in them or I use 2 large sockets Plus the actual point of contact for the jack was sound so no remedial work required. Its purely the fact of metal fatigue after nearly 40 years of fitter abuse.
's class in cleaning the PCV, and having a bit of free time when it wasn't raining, I decided to take a look a mine. Unlike his, my cover is held on with a plastic tie strap, which probably isn't correct, so I hunted down a hose clip thing that looked about the right size. Then I could tackle the job.
The top came off really easily, and I could just slip the old tie right off. Just as well, as it turned out. And now I could see the PCV filter.
Yuck!
This isn't supposed to be brown.
Extracting it reveals even more muck.
A mucky pool of mucky muck sits at the bottom of the housing. This probably isn't ideal, I feel.
I can get quite a bit out with my (gloved!) finger, then use parts cleaner.
Now it's nice and clean, or at least as clean as some shop towels and parts cleaner can get it.
In the meantime, the filter's been soaking in an old yoghurt container with parts cleaner.
Good scrub with an old toothbrush to remove as much brown varnish muck as I can.
I can see the sky through it, but only a little bit through the middle. How much sky should I be able to see?
Much cleaner now. Back she goes. But there's a slight problem. My hose clip wasn't quite big enough, and was a bit too wide to be ideal. So I managed to get the old plastic one back on and it sits as firmly as it ever sat before, which is "requires a good twisty pull to remove." I will get a larger, thinner clip as soon as I can, however. But the car starts and runs.
In the meantime, I've discovered that the hose at the other end of the PCV filter pipe needs replacing, and there appears to be a coolant leak in my new (2016) aluminium radiator from Wizard.
Yeah. This doesn't look ideal. Right at the left (port) edge on the inside. Oh well.....

carefully check the top hose on the rad intake that side, and see if a finger drawn across the end of the hose/spigot of the rad join shows any wetness. the leak could just be a hose seal problem.
I hope you're right. I'll check next time the car's been running, because any coolant will have dried by now. Actually, I could take my boroscope and see if the underside of the join is mucky and green.
