I replaced the windscreen gasket yesterday and sealed it today. It was a PITA, but it works. Just had a thunderstorm and the inside of the car is dry. Still need to put the trim and wipers back on.
Amaaaazing work! Really. Must have taken some courage!
Yeah, Man. Good job!
the third wheel modification i am trying out. i like the combination of the wood finish with the vinyl fabric. i saw a similar wheel made for a Mercedes and liked the placement of the wood and vinyl. i toned down the walnut burl pattern somewhat and still tried to match it with my interior burl colors. the stitching was a challenge as i have not done any before. it actually came out pretty good after numerous attempts. time will tell how well the vinyl holds up.
Just trying to finish a 700R4 conversion using John's Cars kit. Almost ready to install the new trans.
so after 10 years, I started it. And it fired up . I was pretty concerned due to the amount of mouse nesting I found, but I have yet to find any evidence of wire damage.
If I list what I actually did to prep for firing it up, it's a long list, most of which should be an undoing of a list that would be in the confession thread.
I set the TPS correctly that Jaguar of Troy installed and set at 0 volts at idle.
pulled the distributor cap, lubed the weights and checked the vacuum advance
soldered the butt connectors in the oxygen sensors that I had crimped years ago
replaced the starter and stripped 12 point bolt (different thread)
rerouted lots of poorly routed wires and vacuum houses by jaguar of Troy, Mi.
ran new distributer vent hose that was burnt and missed during repair by jaguar of Troy, Mi
new air filters
new rear pads
new exhaust manifold donuts
new oil pan gasket
700R4 installation complete (another thread)
fixed front spring shims
entire brake system bleed
fixed leaking tire (plug leaking)

we should be wheels on the ground shortly.

Well add to the list:
- replace fuel filter, suction strainer, fuel sender, and clean and scrape 1/4 " of tar out of the sump tank,
- change coolant, flush radiator
Nothing big, just changed the black Lloyds mats fasteners out for the original ones! Much better!
Ps! I started a much needed, and long over due, cleaning of the carpets! I have a feeling that my xjs's cleaning was neglected for a couple of years before I got it. Then I've been working on it and didn't do a thorough cleaning yet myself. Today I decided to clean out my trunk and found that the carpet was separating from the backing. I reglued the carpet and as I was rubbing it down, my hand turned black from filth! So I broke out the little green clean machine and started cleaning! Needless to say the water was as black as coffee for 3 cleanings. Smh! I then moved on to the other trunk carpets. Not as bad. Then I started doing some of the interior. Hopefully most of it will clean up well! So far, much better!

Finished cleaning my carpets, unfortunately I think the backing is breaking down and bits of black are coming through. Drrrrrr! I also removed the grey goop from the bottoms of my doors and got the lights on my seat switch to work! Turns out that my negative pin in the connector pushed back some! On the downside, my 2nd brand new windows and top switch plate broke! Argh! I noticed when I put it in, that the tabs don't reach all the way to click under the ski slope. It almost looks like I have a layer of veneer under the slope making it too thick! Hmmmmm
Bought a 2003 XKR convertible to keep my 91 XJS V12 Convertible company!
Bought a 2003 XKR today. I've always wanted one because of the look and supercharger. I found a nice one owner car, owned since new by a elderly man. I'm having it shipped from Pennsylvania to Cape Cod Massachusetts USA this week.

Nice! I enjoy having both my xjs convertible and xk8 coupe. I always preferred the xjs as a convertible and the xk8 as a coupe. I usually tell people that I have the xjs for good weather and the xk8 in not as good or super hot weather, seeing as how the xjs's AC doesn't work. Lol. I've had a few days where I drove the xjs to work because it was beautiful in the morning, but then ended up being in the 90s and raining for the ride home. Top and windows up with no ac sucks! Lol. I actually saw an xkr exactly like yours in the local parking lot the other day when I was driving my xk8. Needless to say I was like "NO WAY!" The wife was like "what?". It was the first time since owning mine that I was in close proximity to another one in the same small area! Just as I was getting out the driver came out and I went and said hello! Nice guy! And yes, I'm in pennsylvania!
Got depressed .. a car that I didn't think needed welding actually does which is mega disappointing.
I was doing some clean up and something just didn't look right, there was foil stuck to the inner drivers side flitch panel that I thought was yet more heat proofing - except it clearly wasn't, I peeled the foil off and started prodding and poking at the mastic and look at the state of this - yes you can see the upper wishbone pivot through that hole. So now I need to find a mobile welder that can work to a high standard.
Oh ya gotta be kidding - removing the front subframe - now I'm really depressed - thankfully I do have a support beam, I also have the quick jacks and sound jacking points and the resource to get it off but it sure wasn't planned - I thought I'd get away with taking the damper out of the way ....

Im not sure thats necessary? Unless its way worse than your pic - I took my car to a rust guy here its all he does, he said worst case scenario some of the suspension needs to come off to access via wheel arch.
Greater minds will surely comment soon. You do need to patch both sides it gets in behind that upper portion of the shock bracket.
