What kind of engine and model do we have?
Hi,
My grandfather has a 1979 XJ with a 4.0 DOHC engine - or so we thought...
My friend who has become quite involoved with foriegn cars as a mechanic has since looked at the car. He is convinced that the car is a 1979 XJ6 with a 4.2 DOHC engine...
The VIN is: JAVLN49109777C
Anybody know for sure? Or how do i find this info out?
thanks

I don't have any of my VIN data handy, but.....
If it's a '79 it can't be an XJS...because it doesn't have a 12 cylinder engine.
So, it must be an XJ6 sedan.
'79 was a transition year between Ser II and Ser III XJ6s
The last 6 digits of Ser III VINs began with 300001
So, my guess is that you have a '79 Ser II XJ6 with the 4.2
Cheers
