Now that is Interesting!

Are they still available and I wonder if they would be better than the latest Plastic Fan.

All electric fans are not equal (the reason I purchased OEM for fans not aftermarket). The shrouding around the fan is important and should be circular as close to the blade tips as possible without touching, this reduced washoff which is where the air flies off the tip of the blade, Like new Jets have winglets.

Blade profile is important and some of the latest have V cuts in the trailing edge which cuts down on noise, we can thank the Owl for this one.

So if you do need to replace the fans look at OEM units, the manufacturers spend lots of $$$ to design these.

100% agree, if you can find an OEM fan with a frame that will drop in (just as Grant and others in Oz have done) it is both cheapest and best. But Spal aftermarket fans are specified OEM by many manufacturers (eg Ferrari and other high-end makes) and Pacet also very good, in fairness. It is the too-cheap-to-be-true ones that you need to avoid.

I don't know how well they compared in terms of cooling. But, they're not break-proof, if that's what you're driving at

On the Series III XJ6 the change to plastic was made 1982-ish. I suspect the same for the XJS...perhaps with the introduction of the "HE" engine?

Metal fans have busted in critters back to the beginning...

One busted on a kid adventure in the AZ desert taking a big bite out of the radiator!!!

I've an old one in my bit shed, just for the fun.... Once a 4 blade, "fixed" to a 2 blade...

Hi Doug

Cheers for Posting those Pics, though at the same time quite unsettling when you realise what can happen.

Hi Carl

I'll get one of the New Plastic Type and include it in the 'Pre Flight Checks' that I do before I go out.
