for the love of all things holy...definitely not one of these....
This, here, is precisely why I have such a problem accepting some people's notion that "it's all a matter of personal taste". Personal taste can drift away from what's generally accepted as "in good taste", rendering that "personal taste" simply into bad taste. IOW, if a great majority rules something as bad taste, well, then IT IS bad taste...
I've seen a few Cadillac sedans with similar set up...yuck..
I might go for a 1996 XJ12 if all the stars aligned properly. Right miles, color, condition and relatively close by. Since I already have a 1997 XJ6 VDP in addition to the 1994 XJS the fire does not burn brightly, but is subject to flare up when and if.
I wouldn't have another Jaguar as long as Nix is alive. It would be disloyal of me.
Jaguars are naturally solitary creatures, only accepting the company of others of their species in special circumstances. Like all cats, however, they appreciate the company of certain 'inferior' creatures who can be of use to them.

I am not sure about that. Since I got my second one I swear late at night I can hear the two of them talking about the old days in England on the assembly line, who worked on them , their journey across the pond and their first owners etc.
They just seem more at peace since I brought them together-LOL !!!! Of course the blue one has said a few times , " why are you not spending more time with me? "

Actually, a V12 X300 is one of the best deals today. I've seen beautiful examples with 50K+ miles, and for $$ peanuts. I love the X300's interior/dash and the V12 has it all, plus, I think, if the V12 was to give me serious trouble, I'm not gonna' lose that much in the first place. It is the perfect car to truly enjoy at a very reasonable cost of acquisition.
I think I need to go back to my original post and add a V12 X300...
I would buy another XJS V12 HE with lower mileage and in better shape. I have been contemplating this. You can buy these cars for a song compared to other makes. I think it is the worlds best kept secret. You have to be brave to dive in, but wow. I will never buy another corvette.
I like the xk8 but worry about the seeming disposable trannys they put in them that seem to have a life expectancy of little more than 100k from what I've read
The xjs tranny is not too sophisticated but is at least reliable
I have a 95 XJS 4.0 convertible and an 02 XJR. They're so different but, just like children, I love them equally. I don't have the garage space but I've been itching to get an XKR convertible. I keep looking at the ads on AutoTrader and drooling.
My other "wish list" cars would be an 86 or 87 Series III VP and an XKE convertible (but the XKE's are waaaaaay too expensive now)
Ah, Paul, what a question . . . an ultimate wish list companion for the XJ-S or XJS or XJ-SC . . . and what a heart-tbreaker I don't want my answer to be. To be flippant, I am tempted to say "All of the above" coz there is much to agree with here . . . and little I would disagree (other than agricultural models). I even respond well to the Fender reference - great guitars.
As you may know mate, I have been fortunate in chasing down "Much of the above" . . . although currently around half a dozen, all purely Jaguars. Interesting that the E-Type still commands such adulation. Now, don't get me wrong . . . back in the 60s or even 70s when we got ours, they were downright awe inspiring. Perhaps jaded after 40yrs ownership, they are IMHO, what they are . . . great 50yo cars. As I get older, even getting under the low roof entry of an XK8/XKR is a challenge. Once inside the E-Type, it fits like a glove (a very TIGHT glove) but getting in or out is an almost surgical operation!
Try this challenge . . . find the best Series1 E-Type you can; hire it; pack up with your partner and disappear for a week to relax and tour the country. I'll lay you an even money bet, you will hand back the E, buy matching XKRs for you and your partner and use all the remainder of your otherwise E-Type "investment" to buy a Suzuki Hyabusa or speedboat or similar.
As others have said, the XJ6 is a "logical" roommate . . . and while I love the slim bumpers of earlier cars, the SeriesIII is a standout champion. But then, for this pipe dream challenge, who needs to be logical.
So, my vote goes to this 1978 XJ-Spider, designed by stylist PinninFarina, as a mid-term replacement for the pre-HE XJ-S, but which Jaguar despite commissioning it, chose NOT to put into production. Alas, I don't know whether it even survives . . .
Or the 1996 Daimler Corsica convertible, that was a beautiful car.
Yes! This! I truly believe that if the Daimler Corsica was put into production, it would easily be one of the most beautiful convertibles of all time, heck, I'd pick it even over the XK8/XKR equivalents! One of these with the 6l V12 please!
Or, while I'm dreaming, a Lister XJS with the full enchilada of upgrades, BUT, with the wide bodykit only, no rear spoiler or raised bootlid, no rear window modifications, like the one below!
