What trim materials did Jaguar use in the 70/80/90’s?

Hi gents…
I have a 95 AJ16, family owned since new. I had the front seats reupholstered about 4 years ago, but I ran into some brand new covers for a 94 V12, front and back made of genuine Autolux leather, so I am having that put in (PLUG: selling the 4 year old Autoberry covers in marketplace)
Anyway, I decided to take the the opportunity to remove and wash the carpets with my carpet cleaner inside the house , and whatever the backing is, it just leaks and leaks color. This car has never been abused, and yes, the original owner- my grandfather -used to smoke in it every now and then, but it’s not like there was a heavy smoker situation going on. Seems like it’s a natural material, but it just bleeds and bleeds a gross brown color. I don’t understand what it is and I don’t know how to make it stop.
Also, opinion, should I take the time to fix the edge/piping around the carpet pieces or just remove them? They just fall apart, but I don’t want it to look unsightly either. Any advice on both issues welcome. Thanks!

I redid my whole interior with classic American car carpet and marine vinyl for the seats. The Jag carpeting looks cheap and looks even cheaper as time progresses. If its bleeding and bleeding, its time to replace it. As for the piping, have a proper upholsterer look at it and see if anything can be done
