hi, when i bought the car it had no spare wheel, dose any one recognize this wheel as a genuine jaguar wheel, or is it after market, i have been trying to find one but haven’t seen one like it

 

Pretty sure it's Jaguar OEM but don't recall which year or model.
Looks like it's a 16" wheel so not original to your 88.

 

It's the 16" wheel fitted to late 6 litre XJSs. Lovely wheel imo!

Go to car-part.com and look up a 1996 Jaguar XJ12 (not XJS) wheel with picture and you’ll find it for about $100. XJS used the same wheel but they are sometimes more expensive when identified as XJS wheels.

I looked at the XJ series sedan (X300) and the part number showed SUPERSEDED.(JEPC)
The spoke pattern looked the same in the JEPC pic but the center hubcap area was FLAT for the sedan.
The wheel for the XJS showed the center extended (like the picture of knare's wheel)

 

No they are different wheels. The XJS version with separate raised centre hub is rarer and more expensive.

They are the same, but there were several variants on the X300. But for the V12 of the X300 and the XJS have the same part number MNA6113FB.

That's what's known as the "12" Diamond Turned 20 Spoke" Wheel that first was an option on 1995 V12 models only. I have original (North American) sales brochures from '94, '95, and '96 which list them as an optional upgrade for the XJS but the '95 brochure says 6.0 cars only, then later in the '96 brochure they show as an available upgrade on both the the 4.0 models and I know they was also still offered on the few '96 model 6.0 cars that was built as as well. None of the brochures say they were ever optional on any of the sedans but I know for a fact some dealers ordered and installed them on sedans for customers who liked them and was willing to pay for them. Over the years I've seen a few sedans with them on the ground but then still had the original aluminum wheel the car had came with as a spare because some dealers didn't think to change all 5 or maybe the customer didn't think it was worth it to pay for the 5th which is usually covered in the trunk anyway.

One of my XJS came new with them, aluminum like yours but I have since found a set of the rare factory chrome ones. I have a Spare, two in fact; one the Diamond-Cut Aluminum and one in Chrome. I'd sell the the Aluminum one. It''s good and no road rash but someone sprayed the wrong kind of cleaner on it at some point and time and damaged the clear coating on it so it needs to be cleaned up if you want it to look perfect.

Exactly. It was well known back at the time that many American dealers (your mileage may vary if your elsewhere) would order and install them, or any factory wheel a customer liked, on the sedans for customers who liked them (and was willing to pay to order a set).

 

Ops! Yea, I didn't know that. I replied to him but I was referring to United States/North American Market. I have an extra of the one he needs but shipping it down under might be pricey but dunno. Single wheel, no tire, no weights, no valve stem in a box by itself, maybe wouldn't be too bad.
