where is the coolant hose supposed to terminate?

Default where is the coolant hose supposed to terminate?

Looking down on the left hand side of my 1987 XJ-S. One can see the header tank (bottom) the PS tank and the front of the cooling rail maifold. My question is where is the hose that comes out of the header tank supposed to end up (the hose with the arrow pointing to it).

I run a cathouse stainless tank which is slightly different but l think that hose should run to the "?" pipe which runs up to the engine filler/cross pipe.

Correct. It goes to 30 / 32 in this diagram:

and 32 fixes to the spigot just to the left of the actual number 1 arrow as printed in this diagram:
