Where do I find a spoiler for my 96 Vert??? HELP!?
Hello all, I just purchased a beautiful 1996 Jaguar XJS 4.0 Convertible, white with tan interior. I'm looking into adding a spoiler, what do you guys think? Although I'm 75% sure I want to get one I'm having a hell of a time finding anything anywhere for sale.
I'm looking for something classy, not really looking for the spoilers that go high off the trunk lid. Below is what I'm looking for. Can someone point me in the right direction
?
They were only used on the facelift V12 cars, and only for Canada and USA markets, so they are not common. Jaguar did sell them as a retrofit kit, but that is long since no longer available.
Note that there are 2 different spoilers, the lower one in your photos is a 94 with the third brake light on the trunk and the upper photo is a 95-96 with the brake light integrated into the spoiler.
Thank you
Jagboi64 for the info, so since this is V6/4.0 I should probably keep it stock (without the spoiler). It looks so nice though, I wonder how many people would actually know that the belong on a V12?
Julio-
They may only have been fitted to V12s in the US(?) but they were an option for all models in all markets.
I have a 4 litre and am currently in the process of fitting the last option kit that Jaguar had in stock.
As mentioned, you won't find a new kit, but you'll definitely find a used spoiler on ebay etc. A few points:
- Make sure you buy one of the facelift spoilers as shown in your pics. Don't fit one of the pre-facelift spoilers to your car. It will look so wrong!
- When fitted from new, they had upgraded boot struts to take the extra weight of the spoiler. Not available from Jaguar any more, but I'm sure you could find some suitable uprated struts. They were originally made by Stabilus, so you could definitely find something suitable.
- A revised radio aerial was also fitted which retracted aerial immediately when the ignition was turned off (as opposed to the 20 second delay) to avoid teh aerial getting broken by opening the boot.
Good luck
PAul
PS You don't have a V6 4 litre! You have a straight 6 4 litre!
Thanks again for the info, however I have been looking on eBay and all over the web for this spoiler and only find the high/tall ones for the older XJS, I like these low to the trunk wrap around looking spoilers. They look a little classier than the older XJS's which look sportier. I'm going for classy with the White and tan interior.
Any other suggestions other than eBay on where to locate one? Id hate to visit or call every junkyard within a 500 mile radius.
Im on the opposite end of the spoiler craze. I prefer them without the spoiler, leave your car alone, and learn more about it. Im sure more important things need to be addressed.
Brewtech, I've actually been debating on the spoiler just wanted to see what info I can get in case I decided to go that route.
Question if I wanted to boost the horsepower to my 96 or just make it more reliable (although from what I read they're already reliable) are there any small bolt-ons or inexpensive tweaks I can give it? Its being delivered on Tuesday, I just purchased some original 16" Jaguar wire wheels, the exterior and interior are mint, I would just like to do whatever I can do make it last me years and years to come. :-)
Hello,
Shipping would be extra.
I'll get it off and get a quote, but it's snowing quite a bit here. Maybe you heard about Buffalo near me.
Another lister in Florida is interested as well.
I'll be in touch,
Rob
There are no easy horsepower tweaks to the 1996, 4.0.
Just make sure everything is within spec first.
Since you have not received it yet, drive it for a while before altering it.
I have never found them wanting for power.
You havent driven it yet, so dont concern yourself with horsepower. Its a great cruiser with adequate power. If you want a beast get an XKR. Otherwise dont expect your XJS to be a British mustang. I think youre excited to get the car and thats understandable, but stop looking to modify it already. Its best to just maintain it properly and enjoy it. Cheers!
I'm sorry I took so long to get back to you, by now the spoiler is probably gone. I live in sunny Santa Barbara CA 93111. juliocervantes20055@yahoo.com.
