White Letter Tires?

White Letter Tires?
Just a couple questions for thoughts; Has anyone installed tires with white lettering outside? -I glanced through E-Bay, none of them on there show white lettering, and from memory I cannot recall any member photos here either.
Mine BFG T/A's are still in great shape, however pondering when I replace them, what they would look like with raised white lettering shown? -Perhaps a little too 'muscle-ey'?

Maybe because I'm older, so much older....I loved having raised outlined letter tires (I've always hated the solid white letter tires, though) on my '73 Mach 1 back in the '80s, but I wouldn't think of putting them on my XJS. Still would probably put them on the old Mach if I had it today, though.

Unless your XJS is a racecar with big white meatballs and a "44" on them.....Please, for gosh sakes, don't do it.

OTOH, this one would look a little better with white letter tires....

While I am rarely a fan of WLT's the bottom line is it's your car and you are the one driving it. If it makes you happy to run raised whites or redlines or even 24" rubber band tires then by all means do it! These cars are not rare, or particularly valuable,( unfortunately!) so if you like to personalize it to better match your personality more power to you!

BTW: One thing I dislike about car shows is seeing row after row of (insert car here) that are all the same except for the color. I believe one of the reasons we drive XJS's because of their individuality compared to the main stream group of cars. Some of us are just a little more "individual" than others!

I'm sure everyone would agree!
However, the responses seen so far merely reinforce the reservations Greg himself expressed in the beginning :-)
Cheers

This car is simply awesome, don't you think? It only lacks white letter tires....... http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/189r...g/original.jpg

OP - I can see why you'd consider running raised whites: you have an 80s XJS. That car is the one make that I'd consider it on too. I'd probably end up going conservative, as is my nature, but I can see where you consider it, given the XJS look, which is as muscley as Jags get IMO.

I would be against the white raised letter tires, but it appears that Jaguar advertisement in the 70's was all about whitewall tires which I also would never do. I think the white letter tires might work on a coupe depending on color. Throw them on a white coupe with a TWR kit, maybe, throw them on a oyster colored convertible not so much
These are the ads with whitewall tires. Also interesting how they called it the "S type" to try to link it to the E type moniker

Also, those BFGoodrich tires are about the only choice I can find in 236/60-15 now. I suppose you could always swap them around so the letters are on the inside (which is exactly how my car is).
