Default Windscreen washer pump (weak again)

Hi everyone,

Not a major issue but my MoT is due in a couple of months and the windscreen washer jets are only just dribbling again. I've replaced the pump twice in the last 3 or 4 years and the jets maybe 2 years ago. The jets and plastic hoses all seem clear and the reservoir has plenty of clean fluid.

The pumps I have used in the past are not Jaguar but sold by SNG as aftermarket reproduction. Has anyone found a pump that produces a good squirt that seems to last?

I'm beginning to wonder if pushing water from the level of the front bumper all the way up to the base of the windscreen is too much work for the pumps available now. Considering replacing with an after market system with a small reservoir under the bonnet so the pump has less work to do. Anyone tried this?

Thanks for reading.

Cheers,
LeeP

I went thru some similar tribulations with my TR6 recently. Several pumps tried; different brands; none have very much oomph. A couple lasted only a few usages.

I've since shrugged it off as "They don't make things like they used to" but I'd be tickled if someone here has info on something good.

Cheers

What I have done is to find a headlight washer pump and connect it into the reservoir somehow. They are far stronger than the washer pumps are. For example:

Same problem with the Windscreen Washers on my XJS V12

So I decided to 'Mod' it by taking the Water Filter out of the Mix and am pleased to say, that it has never worked better after that

Thanks OB. Very useful especially the link to your earlier post.

From the responses to date I have a few things to explore now.

Cheers,
