Very interesting. My preHEstoric XJ-S does not have a lot of funky wiper options in the (probably) original stalk, but the wipers surely do some moves I didn't expect to see, and maybe it's caused by a wrong type of wiper motor.
They work as expected until I turn them off. On the way to park position they turn around half way down and do one more wipe before stopping...

They can park on either side. The bellcrank on the motor shaft is simply set 180 degrees in the opposite direction to get them to park on the opposite side. Of course you need the proper bend on the one wiper arm for them to look correct when parked on the opposite side.

Sounds like you have the later Lucas system which does reverse the motor to go to park. What you describe is not unusual.

Standard operating procedure for the Lucas system from the launch of the car. I believe that the only upgrade to the Lucas system was a more powerful motor in later versions, before the much better Electrolux system came in on the pre-facelift-but-upgraded cars. FYI I am pretty sure that all these PFBU cars, in addition to the Electrolux wiper system had the Recaro type seats, Ford column switchgear, Marelli ignition and Delanaire Mk III aircon system, and full flow oil cooling. But as always, I am quite likely to be corrected!
What I can say for certain is that the later Electrolux system will go straight in to an HE XJS Lucas-wiper car and work fine, with no electrical changes being needed; however the intermittent wipe for some reason does not work. There is apparently an easy fix for this, and I used to have a copy of a "how to do it" paper on it, but I cannot find it. If anyone knows how, please post it.

Default Wiper park position

You have to cut the wire at the number 2 position on the switch, and use a different intermittent wiper relay, DAC6053 (green case). The relay is NLA from Jaguar. I found a used one. Complicating matters is the fact that the Jag part number is not on the relay itself, making them harder to find. The existing blue case intermittant relay MAY be able to be modified to work. The circuitry is similar, but there are internal differences. Service bulletin JD03/89, item 18 outlines the procedure to convert from Lucas to Electrolux. It says you have to change wiper arms also, but the Lucas ones fit fine.

There were two different Lucas wiper systems. The pre-HE cars had a solenoid park system, and the later ones (HE) reversed the motor to park. There was a conversion from solenoid park to non-solenoid park that could be done with the help of a retrofit magic box. I've not seen the service bulletin on this conversion. The Great Palm in his book describes the differences between the two Lucas systems.
There have been several discussions in the last couple of months on the Lucas to Electrolux conversion on the Jag-Lovers forum. You might look there.

This is mine.

1985 Coupe. RHD beast.

And YES, I dicked around for ages to get them where I wanted them.

I put a slight "kink" in the arm/s, just at the blade hook area.

Those "pin style" arms are rare that I have seen down here, but we Aussies are a special lot, so maybe thats why we got the "hook style".

I also messed seriously with ALL the S2 cars, as I disliked the UK set up something fierce.

Got them "better", but never as good as my XJ-S layout.

Here is the link to the service bulletin. The wiper information starts about page 42:

The bulletin includes a how-to.

Maybe I can help out.
I noticed a while back while searching images and for-sale listings, before I got my blue kitty, that 1994 was the first year that the US XJS wipers now parked on the driver's side. Earlier models parked on the passenger (desirable) side.

I have a 1996 so they parked on the US driver's side (as I believe all 1994-1996 models did).
Noticed I said 'parked'.

I changed it. I brought home a 1992 coupe wiper assembly+arms prepared to swap the whole thing out to have a set up that parked on the passenger side.

Well after getting the donor assembly all cleaned up and lubed, and then taking mine out, I noticed there is one bolt that mates the metal linkage transmission to the motor. I recalled someone else here or the other major forum saying they reversed theirs by adjusting the linkage.
So I loosened the bolt enough to disconnect the linkage from the motor spindle (it is a splined shaft like the main arm spindles but smaller), and then I rotated the linkage 180 degrees, pressed it back onto the spindle and tightened the bolt back in.
Re-installed it back in my car, tested the rotation, it looked good, so reinstalled the arms+blades, and VIOLA! Wipers that park on the passenger side, and perform a complete (but now reversed) wipe pattern, and was able to keep my original assembly!
One thing I noted that was strange, the '92 assembly washer spray jets have the one wide opening that sprays a fan pattern, my '96 had the two tiny holes that spray 2 jets each. The fan spray pattern is superior so I popped out the little adjustable metal spray heads (size of pencil eraser) and swapped them with mine. Now I have the most ideal set up!

All you need to do this on your car is to get hold of a pair of earlier wiper arms (or a set from the UK from a car that parks on their driver side) that have the correct angle on them for parking on the passenger side, and to take out your assembly and unbolt, adjust 180, then reinstall.
A fairly easy modification to have the setup like I now have, that I see others here may want to have.

Willing to lend any help or advice on doing this to anyone who wants to attempt it. Very easy to do, took me about 45 minutes.

Benj628,
You have just convinced me to take on this project for my 95 coupe. Thanks for doing the research to change yours. This is a project I wanted to do since I purchased this car.
Now the search for right side park wiper arms begin. Anyone out there have a set they would like to part with???

Excellent! I can provide you with a pic of the extra assembly I have just to show you exactly where/what to do so you can have a straight-forward job and go in knowing exactly what you're doing. I think I can get you a pair! I'll check with the Jag shop I go to, he has about 12 parts cars and a parts room filled with 40 yrs of stuff.

Looking forward to seeing those pictures. Do you have part numbers for the two wiper blades?
Thanks,
Ron

Here are the pics, sorry for the delay!
For driver-side to passenger-side wiper park adjustment modification on late 1994 to 1996 US market cars: the arrow shows the bolt that mates the smallest assembly link to the motor spline. Unbolt far enough to free the link from the spindle, rotate to the exact opposite side - in this case the link should be rotated from left to point right (putting it into the position shown in the pic with arrow), and re-bolt. Get it nice and tight because this motor has a lot of torque and it could potentially strip out the inner splining on the link if it is not mated very tightly, and be suuuuure grease/oil all the joints of rotation and both top/bottom sides of the wiper drive spindles to restore any lost freedom of movement and to make it easier on the motor and assembly on the whole.

Like I stated, for anyone who comes across this in the future, this mod is only ideal if you can also get the wiper arms with the correct angle for parking parallel on the US passenger side, you can use the straight type arms (two XJS passenger side ones or possibly straight arms from old/other Jaguar model) or if capable you can modify your original arms by sawing off the ends and welding back on at the proper angle, or as I've heard others do: heating+bending your originals, but again, if you keep on the factory driver-side parking arms with this modification, it will have your wiper blades angled way up onto the windshield when parked (looks bad, puts them in your field of vision which defeats the whole purpose of this modification).

This shows the bolt you must unscrew almost all the way to free the linkage for re-orienting 180 degrees. This shows it after re-bolting in the desired passenger side park position. That gold link was originally pointing to the left from the point of view.

Mine after modification. The manual says to use 15" blades, but I found that a 18" driver and 16" passenger fit perfectly with no interference, and they wipe right to the edge of the windshield rubber seal (maximum area wipage!) I prefer the vintage Trico stainless frames that use the inexpensive real rubber 'wide' refills with retaining clips on ends. Note: I did have to trim a 1/8th off the tip of the driver blade so it would not hit the rubber trim at the very top of the wipe. Blades vary in exact length and are relative to the connector of the blade, you can test yours to "fine-tune" them by trimming or flipping the connector.

years ago I read a consumer's report about wiper blades. The outcome was don't waste money on expensive blades the useful life is no better than inexpensive blades from Trico. good choice and it is nice to know about the blade lengths. It looks like the very small bend in my driver's side arm can be straighten out in a vice and used on the passenger side. It looks like your passenger side is straight. Thanks for the pictures and advice.

The wiper blade arms DAC11036 & DAC11038that park on the passenger side for the 93 to 96 XJS have a 2 degree and a 4 degree bend to the left which makes the park position close to parallel with the windshield lower edge. I am still looking for the correct arms.

Benj628, I have passed on your helpful description to others and told them to look up your posts.
