wheels mounted and test drive this morning. I would say they handle as well as the alloys did. happy with them so far but they won't get many miles until spring gets here.

Nice! Are they actual knock offs or bolt ons? Mine are the 72 spoke Dayton bolt-ons. If they are bolt -ons, I didn't know you could get knock off center covers like those.

they are knock offs. Dayton no longer makes bolt on wheels.

Interesting. So you had to get a set of splined adapters too? Special bolts to hold those on?

yes, the adapters bolt to the hub ( standard lug nuts). the wheel slips over the adapter and then the spinner tightens the wheel onto the adapter. tighten with a lead hammer and ready to go. the adapters remain in place when you remove the wheel for cleaning or whatever so you should not have to remove them. the time to pull a wheel or put one one is about the same as with using lugnuts and impact wrench, maybe quicker. the biggest issue was getting them balanced. nobody wants to do it. i tried 3 of the local wheel shops with no luck. finally found out a guy in our car club had a wheel balancer and mounting equipment. wire wheels are the wheels that belong on these cars IMO.

Can you post some pics? What rim size and tire size did you get?

Thanks ...yes, ok, seems standard configuration for mounting wires. I had them on a 67 Spit, 73 MGB and my old 68 EType. Was just wondering what a modern set entailed or if was the same and wondered about the mounting of the adapters themselves as far as the kind of bolt and if a certain size bolt was used. My bolt-on Daytons use a very expensive kind of chrome lug where the shank size is precise to the flange bolt holes

I got 7x16 wheels with a 33 offset. that is the size wheels that were on the car. I don't know if the wires required a specific offset I just told Dayton he size wheels that were on the car. when you order the wheels you must get the adapter kit for the wheel ( see generic picture). the adapters are universal fit . the lug nuts are a standard 1/2x20, same lug nuts that are on my 1960 Impala. the bad news-- a little over $3100 for everything !
I sent Dayton the inserts for thew spinners and the machined the spinner to attach the growler inserts.

.

I have a set of zenith wire wheels 16x7 I use to have on a 2000 xj8 that I’m trying to sell but I might put them on my 89 XJS instead. I don’t know the exact offset but on my zeniths they described it as “standard” offset it has a bit of a lip. Not sure if I would run into any clearance issues with that offset. What size tires are you running?
