I have been looking for a celebration model wood wheel for the past 8 months and they seem to be as scares as hens teeth.

Thats great. My pin was very difficult to get to start turning...... I was really worried I was going to damage it, but eventually it started turning. Much better if you can do with standard tools though.....

Here we go.....



The wheel is from mossmotors website. It's called a "tourist trophy" There are plenty of different variations available with different woods, leather, different spokes, etc

As well as a hub adapter for an '89 non-airbag car I had to buy a hub 1" spacer because the wheel was too close to the turn signal and wiper stalks.

The rim is pretty thin. Much thinner than the original wheel. It kind of feels like an old E-type wheel. I got the 14" size so it's about 1" smaller than the standard one

Why did you lose the horn? I have a Motalita that looks pretty much the same as yours, the horn thingy that goes down the centre of the shaft just had to have a wire soldered to the centre with the other end connected to the Motamita horn push. Maybe that will work for you? Mine is the pre-1987 Jaguar stalks though.

Hi Greg

I'm trying to remember what the issue was..... I think because the car had the airbag, there was no wire running down the middle of the steering column........ instead the wire connected to the steering wheel via a metal ring on the back of the steering wheel and a spring loaded pin on the steering column. Obviously my new boss didn't have this metal ring so I couldn't easily work out how to get the wire back into the steering wheel....... maybe other will chime in and tell me I've done it wrong, but now that I'm typing this, I do remember doing a little research at the time and concluding I couldn't do it. I nipped out to the garage to have a look at the original wheel but, em, I can't seem to remember where I put it, so my response here is based on my not so good memory :-)

Default Horn Button hookup

When I installed my "Grant" wheel, all went well, had the battery cable unhooked, when I had everything installed with the horn button, put battery cable on, ----no horn. Had to re-center the wheel, started car, turned wheels slightly to confirm straight, horn now working. Took wheel off to move it two splines, horn button back on----no horn.
-Stupid me did not realize, key had to be on (or started) to power horn.
Arrrrgh!

I agree that for £299.00 (+ 20% VAT and shipping) is a lot of money for only a just over half of the job. But in fairness it is made to swop your existing airbag wheel over hence l guess none of the other parts. Although thats not 100% clear on the web site that apart from an airbag you will need all of that, if like me you swop out a non-airbag wheel.( now you all Know...lol). Maybe now they can offer that swop option an sell the other parts too.

If you read my post and watch the Myrtle video you will see that a simple bolt with a 5 mm hole drilled in it and one side flattened with a hammer will save you the $190.00. Needle nose pliers might also work. Watch out for the tiny safety grub screw that might be tightened up on the firing pin....

To be honest, this was my first time fiddling with an airbag so I was a bit concerned about it going off and breaking my face :-) I also didn't buy the special tool...... I got a loan of it from a very nice member of this board.
