Hmm. I didn't intend for this to be an entirely new thread. I'd added it to by original ball joint thread with a "subject" and here this is... Anyways
Thanks Brinny. I know the thing needs an alignment anyways. I had to remove and replace the steering rack maybe four times in the early days of working on her,,, inner and and outer arms and rod ends replaced as well,,, tho I was very careful in counting thread turns when replacing the ends. Still the wheel feels pretty good with the 4 shims like this. I have heard most folks have 2 and 2 on both sides. Maybe the PO hit a curb, lol...

FWIW - My '96 has all 4 shims on the rear side (both wheels). The alignment was done by a shop very familiar with the XJS. He said it was right at the edge of the tolerance with the shims like that. The ride and tire wear are good so no worries.
