Listen, man, ya gotta go V12. That's what got me hooked on these in the first place. I just bought an '89 convertible that 'Father n Son' were fixing up. They got in way over their heads. I am probably in over mine! But what motivates me is the quirks and uniqueness of this car. I am going to make it right, because I got what I really wanted. I even got the color I wanted (white) AND it has a blue top and blue interior which is not real common. I say go for what you REALLLY want. Just do it!!
This forum is really awesome if you need help. GO FOR IT!!

I figure that a good AJ16 or AJ6 4 litre will be lighter in the front for handling, yet reasonably easily tuned up to, say 260-280bhp with straight forward mods. (( simple put an all aluminum GM LS V8 in it, much better than old straight six))! and mods are very effective and CHEAP!

Others of you will have been through this process before. What are the opinions?

The V12 as a car is a complete dog.

The 6 cylinder XJS was faster from the factory and can be made to go round corners, which the huge and desperately overweight V12 is totally incapable of.

I have developed a handling and performance kit for the 6 cylinder and you can take a further 100kg easily off the weight.
You can 350bhp easily and it uses half the fuel of the V12.

Forget the V12 it's an out of date piece of rubbish with dreadful thermal efficiency, which destroyed all the development of the proper 6 cylinder car because they didn't want it to compete with the V12 for pure marketing BS.
