XJS ABS Refurb
Hi,
Does anyone know where I can get a 1989 ABS Skid unit refurbished in the UK? I have a warning light on for MOT but it drives fine, the garage have suggested it is a 21 fault (I think this is a faulty outlet valve), I have a spare unit but am worried that the existing units may be clogged up so want to get them refurbished before it gets re-installed.
Thanks in advance.

Lungi,
I presume you mean the ABS valve block, rather than the ABS ECU?
There are 4 things that can go wrong with the valve block:
- Blocked or damaged sediment filter baskets
- Damaged / brittle ribbon cable that actuates the valves
- Corroded valve seats from water absorption in the fluid
- Failed actuators on the valves (unlikely)
I dont know anyone who advertises refurbishment of the blocks in the UK. You could try phoning Andy Harvey at JustXJS or David Marks at David Marks Garage and see if they would do it.
Alternatively you could carefully remove the cover and do a quick careful visual inspection. Mind the little rubber o-ring seals when opening it.
Good luck
Paul

Hi Luigi
What is the Warning Light that you have on?
Is it the Yellow ABS Light or the Red Light with the Round Brake Symbol on it?
Refurbing The ABS Valve Block is a simple inexpensive job if you do it yourself (with some professional Soldering Assistance)
So if/when you take the Cover off as Paul (ptjs) has suggested, if you see a broken Ribbon Wire, take the Valve Block in to a Radio Repair Shop and ask them to take out the Ribbons and Re-Wire them all with Hi Temp Silicone Wire
It may be a good idea to have your Spare one done as well and there is no need to remove the Valve Block from the Side of the Master Cylinder Actuator
Just take the whole thing into a Radio Repair Shop and having taken the Cover Plate off, just ask them to Re-Wire it with High Temp Silicone Wire, it can very simply be just as easy as that
