XJS interior retouching
#21
!990 xjs convertible, Jag has been garaged all its life, it is not flat, flat looks like any black leather new interior. The OP interior IMO is way,way to glossy.

Here's my motorless '91 with black interior:
I'd love to see your refinish of the ski slope in carbon fiber. I've been looking into the carbon fiber or even vinyl wood grain for some of my projects.

since my ski-slope was irreparably cracked and broken, I decided to refinish in carbon fiber. this led to me replace all wood grain with custom carbon fiber inserts.

You guys have got me interested. OP said he has vinyl panels and another poster mentioned no stitching??
My XJS definitely has full leather door panels and there is very much stitching on the armrest. I was under the impression the vinyl door cards were only seen on the XJ6. Is this not true and down to year or what?

My '88 had true 'full leather' as well. Door cards, console, entire seats (not just the facings), console, etc.
Over the course of years the mix of materials seems to have varied quite a bit, possibly according to market in some cases. Lord only knows the research it would take to sort it all out !
Cheers

I think it'll all look nice and cohesive when I've done the dash wood.
I happened upon a beautiful black 91 parts car... fully intact (ski slope included). the fellow offered me unfettered access to pull parts for a flat $500!
I'm going to pull the lattice wheels, it has a brand new full exhaust system, and everything is in great shape.
I might've considered going back to wood grain (my ski slope was terrible) but this one is walnut \-;

My 89" Has the black interior. I do have one question as to the side bolsters on the front seats, as Mine are the arched forward ones as opposed to others I've seen where the seat backs are flat. Why is there a difference??? just curious?

If you develop a process with this can I send you my interior parts to be refinished in gloss black? I saw a picture once with black interior and brushed aluminum finish (no wood?) it was amazing, had to of been pre-80s as there was no center dash computer/digital clock. I'd pay in blood for those brushed metal interior parts and black leather...

While I was stripping my center console ski slope, there was a stage in which it was bare, brushed steel. It looked really awesome, and I briefly contemplated to how replace all the wood with that finish, but alas that would require metal skills beyond my ability. I think I would prefer a stain less or other metal finish to carbon, as it would be more period correct... but I’ll stay within my wheelhouse so to speak.
I have been doing the vinyl refinishing for many many years and it’s pretty easy. I’d be happy to share technique.

not sure about the "gt" but not sporty comment either lol, why is it a coupe with a v12 if its not somewhat "sporty".
I dig it. Seeing pics I may go with the new leather route myself. Mine isn't bad and I have the beige leather interior which is nice but its worn, few open cracks and I'd like to change the colour of it.
Post up some pics when its installed and with the rest of the interior. What are you doing with the seats redying it as well then?

yes I've got this two part leather dye, from this outfit in Texas. I first discovered it turning a brown leather sofa black. its works well and really holds up to every day sitting.
in the next few weeks I should have it done, but I'll have progress photos as it goes. especially when my lattice wheels go on!
