Default XJS strange problem...

Hi!

This is the first problem I've found in my new xjs v12 ... grrrrr!

Well... The car, when in N, is rock hard to move by pushing: I know the car it's heavy iron but... but it's nearly impossible to move!

Note that the car, when engine is running, can move itself and brake.

Any ideas of what's the problem?

Thanks!

Make sure the handbrake is off. Just because it is down doesn't mean it's off. If you can pull it up with no effort and without hearing any clicks, the handbrake is on and needs to be released by pressing the button at the end of the grip and lowering the handbrake.

If the brake is off, the handbrake drums may still be engaged. This is common, especially in cars that have sat for a long time.

The disc caliper pistons may also be sticking. Lift the front wheels and check that you can freely rotate them. Mine were tough to rotate when I got the car and the pistons were not retracting and were wearing the pads and making it hard to roll. Overhaul of the calipers fixed it.

I'd just jack each corner one corner at a time and make sure the wheels turn freely. Make sure you block one side and keep it in "N" when doing the rear.

You will not be able to do this with the rear if you an LSD you will need both rear wheels off the deck at the same time.

Could also be an alignment problem causing a lot of resistance. Are the tires worn excessively or unevenly?
