"Worth doing", how?
If you really like the car, and enjoy a project, and get a lot of satisfaction from the results then, hell yes, it's worth doing! But, remember, whatever you think you'll have to spend on the project add a full 50% at least. Doubling the anticipated amount might be even closer. An old Jag can be a money sponge.
If you mean "worth doing" in terms of return on your financial investment....heh heh....well... I can just about promise it ain't gonna happen
Depending on your pocketbook, abilities, and tolerance it might be better to start off with a car that needs less work.
Cheers

Not as much as you would think, although the time involved is extensive and the learning curve is steep. I have just replaced 4 discs / pads / flexies for £105, the master cylinder is also weeping so a seal kit set me back another £20.
Its the stuff you will find along the way that will cost you I suspect. I found a broken spring for example while doing the fronts brakes, I have not addressed it yet but I can also see all of the bushes and gaiters have perished on the front axle!
After 10 years your rad hoses will probably be shot and your ignition system will almost certainly need need some TLC (cap / leads / plugs / dizzy overhaul). If you left it empty (fuel) great, if not prepare for some fuel line work and at the very least a filter. I am still very much a junior XJS mechanic, their are those on here with vastly more knowledge than me that will be able to point you in the right direction.
Just remember, its an English V12 built by British Leyland (a heavily unionised bunch of yahoo's at the time) you have to love it more with your heart than your head otherwise you will be off to the scrap yard in no time.
P.S The bodywork has the potential to cost a tonne, unless you can weld / fill well. That I suspect will be the maker/breaker all the common mecanhcials can be rectified quite cheaply.
